Shakespeare's life and Family:
*** Note that the following information is based on church records and may not all be accurate***
It is believed that in April 1664 John and Mary Shakespeare welcomed their son, William into the world. Little did they know that he would go on to be a famous writer, poet and actor. William was the third of eight children although only four of them survived until adulthood.
Shakespeare attended school up until the age of 13 when he was forced to drop out and help his dad’s business which had hit rock bottom. After helping his dad for quite a few years he left only to next return aged 18 bearing news that his 26 year old partner Anne Hathaway was three months pregnant. This was quite as scandal for the time as she was much older than him. A wedding was hastily arranged and in May 1583 they became parents to Susanna Shakespeare. Two years later they welcomed twins Hammet and Judith but Shakespeares four tune was not looking too good. William and his family moved to London hoping to find away to support themselves. He started working in the theatre and this is where it all began. Shakespeare became a managing partner of theatre company Lord Chamberlains Company. From this they then got interest in theatres, ’The Globe’ and ‘Black Friars’.
Shakespeare wrote his first poem in 1593 ‘Venus and Adonis’. He continued on writing poems, acting and writing plays for most of his life and most of them became quite famous. You most likely have heard of ‘Romeo and Juilet’ and ‘Hamlet’ which are two plays he wrote, still being performed today.
